Tobacco etch virus protease is a highly site-specific cysteine protease derived from tobacco etch virus (TEV). The optimum recognition site for this enzyme is the sequence Glu-Asn-Leu-Tyr-Phe-Gln-Gly; cleavage occurs between the Gln and Gly residues.
